1. Choose the car and check it can be used where you live
Start with what you need: range, size, price and charging. Plug-in electric cars need a place to charge, while hybrids fuel like normal cars. Check that the charging plug type of the car matches the chargers you can use (see our guide to charging standards), and check whether your country allows left-hand or right-hand drive cars and how old a car may be when imported.
2. Work out the landed cost before you pay
The vehicle price is only part of the total. The landed cost adds ocean freight and insurance, and import duty and taxes are paid to customs when the car arrives. Use our shipping and duty calculator to see an estimate for your country before you commit.
3. Ask for a formal quotation
A quotation fixes the vehicle, the route and the price in writing. Read it carefully and ask questions. Nothing is shipped until you accept it and pay.
4. Pay into the designated bank account
At Global EV Link you pay into the designated Regional Agent bank account provided for your region, never to a stranger. The money stays there until you have received the order, and only then do we ask our Regional Account Agent to release it to the seller.
5. Inspection, export papers and shipping
After payment is confirmed the vehicle is inspected, the export documents are prepared and the car is loaded on a ship. You receive a tracking number and can follow every stage from home.
6. Customs clearance and delivery
When the ship arrives, customs checks the papers and the duty and taxes are paid to the authority. The car is then released to you or your agent at the port, or delivered to your address if you chose door delivery.

Can I import a used electric car to Africa?
Many countries allow it, but rules differ on age, steering side and duty. Check with your customs authority, and use our calculator for an estimate.
Who pays the import duty?
The buyer pays import duty and taxes to the customs authority of the destination country when the car arrives. We show an estimate in the quotation.
