How to import an electric car to the Caribbean

Island buyers have extra things to think about: which side of the road, how old a car may be, and how the car reaches the port. Here is a simple checklist.

1. Check which side of the road you drive on

Some islands drive on the left and use right-hand-drive cars, while others drive on the right and use left-hand-drive cars. Check this first, because it decides which cars you can use.

2. Check the age limit and any rules for used cars

Many islands limit the age of imported used cars. Check the current limit, and ask what papers the car needs.

3. Look at duty and any electric-car incentives

Some islands offer lower duty or other incentives for electric and hybrid cars, and these change from time to time. Confirm the current rules with your customs authority.

4. Plan the shipping

We ship by container or RoRo and show the estimate in the calculator. Tracking is included, so you can follow the car from home.

5. Pay safely

Pay only into the designated Regional Agent bank account provided for your region. The money stays there until you have received the car and confirmed it matches what was agreed.
