Electric or hybrid: which car should you import?

The best car to import depends less on the badge and more on where and how you will drive and charge it.

Electric cars (BEV)

Run only on a battery. Lowest running cost and very quiet, but you need reliable charging at home or work and a plug type that fits. Good when you drive mostly in and around a city and have power available.

Hybrids (HEV)

Use a petrol engine with a small battery that charges itself while you drive. No plug needed, long range on a full tank, and an easy step for buyers who have no charging yet.

Plug-in hybrids (PHEV)

Can run on electricity for short trips and on petrol for long ones. Useful where charging exists but is not everywhere.

How to decide

Ask three questions: where will I charge, how far do I drive between charges, and which plug standard do chargers near me use? If charging is hard, a hybrid is the practical choice. You can filter our inventory by powertrain and charging standard.

Common questions

Do hybrids need charging?

Standard hybrids do not need a plug: they charge their own battery. Plug-in hybrids can be plugged in, but also run on fuel.

What is the range of an electric car?

It depends on the model and the battery. Each of our listings shows the official range and the battery health.
