How to import an electric car to Latin America

Latin American countries each set their own rules, and some restrict used-car imports sharply. This guide helps you ask the right questions first.

1. Find out whether used cars are allowed

Some countries in the region allow used cars, some allow them only under strict conditions, and some restrict them heavily (Brazil, for example, is known for sharp limits). Check the current rule for your country before you choose a car.

2. Look at duty, taxes and local fees

Import duty and taxes in the region can be high, and they differ for electric and hybrid cars. Use our calculator for an estimate, then confirm with customs.

3. Most of the region drives on the right

That usually means left-hand-drive cars. Each car on our site shows its steering side, and you can filter by it.

4. Check charging

Check which plug your local chargers use. Read our charging standards guide, and make sure you can charge at home.

5. Use the same safe steps

Ask for a written quotation, pay into the designated Regional Agent bank account for your region, receive the inspection report and the export papers, and follow the shipment with your tracking number.
